Wow, it seems like just yesterday when I was writing about our big office move. Now we are settling into our new space and I have figured out the two words that will eventually ruin me: “ping pong”. Right outside of my new office door, in the freshly-painted-with-soothing-earth-tones lobby, sits our conference table. And what do my co-workers do at every available opportunity? They bring out a portable ping pong table and play like they mean it right in the middle of the day. Behold a real conversation excerpt regarding said ping pong table:
Heather: We need some ping pong rules. No gaming until after 5pm.
Jimmy “intern I used to” Love: How about 4pm?
Heather: 4:30 and it moves to 6pm if we get even one noise complaint.
Jimmy: Firm but fair.
So that, my friends, is the new high-level negotiation at InfoTrust. We also have a full size refrigerator now which I fill with healthy snacks and lunch supplies. One might even wonder why I found a receipt for LaRosa’s on my desk yesterday???
Along with our growing office, we also have a growing staff. Our previous programming intern from Cincinnati State Andrew DeWitt has become a regular member of our team. I love it when that happens. At every internship hire, I hope so much that our partnership with them will be able to grow into a full time employment relationship. And, I also find one of my absolute favorite parts of HR work is offering someone their first “real” job. Thanks for joining our team, Andrew!
We have also gained three new interns for the summer—Austin, Sun and Jimmy. Jimmy was referred to us by Amin (brothers by another mother, or something like that… I’m not sure how they say it because I am a 40 year old woman out of touch with not so clever sayings). They have singlehandedly turned our Marketing Department into a machine. And, pushed the limits of my decorating tolerance when they painted and “decorated” their shared office.
Sun has jumped right in to developing with Andrew and what I like to call the “easygoing” office. Sun and his wife are from China, and this is also his first US job while working on his advanced degree from UC. Not that I would know, but UC grads are super welcome here.
Austin is a junior in high school and has been invaluable to our office transition although I think he has nightmares about putting together IKEA furniture. We are happy to have him and I”m even happier watching our InfoTrust family grow. Even if it means putting up with the new ping pong table.
