On Oct. 14, 2020, Google announced that App + Web would be renamed Google Analytics 4, or GA4, and become the new standard tracking model across the Google Analytics platform. This announcement heralds in what is being deemed by many as “the future of analytics.”
News, media, and publishing organizations have many different platforms to interact with their audiences. These organizations own or manage websites, mobile apps, and over-the-top (OTT) apps on platforms like Roku and Apple TV. This means that understanding the cross-platform journeys of their audiences is crucial to predict customer needs and provide great experiences.
Currently, many news, media, and publishing organizations measure app engagement with Google Analytics for Firebase and website engagement with Google Analytics 360. While each of these products separately offers powerful insights, getting a more unified understanding of engagement across your apps and websites can be a manual and painstaking process.
With its July 2019 announcement and rollout of App + Web properties (beta), Google is making this process simpler with unified app and web analytics.
