Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, a fully managed audit package is available via the Managed Audit Review add-on. With the managed audit addition an experienced governance professional will act as an expert extension of your team to review new tags found, assist with consent categorization evaluations, provide guidance for Consent Policy strategy, and proactively review identified violations to assist in the risk mitigation process.

PII auditing is available as a license add-on. Tag Inspector’s PII monitoring is real-time, live environment monitoring to help identify the collection of clear-text PII by tracking tags as well as the surfacing of PII in any URL on your website(s).

Collecting data during purchase events and strategic user goals on your website is of paramount importance to digital marketers. Ensuring that all data collection tags are in place when these events occur is a must. Here are two ways Tag Inspector can help:

Audits

Auditing is the core feature of Tag Inspector; it scans or "spiders" all pages of your website to detect tracking tags. The scanner cannot, on its own, perform actions like “add to cart,” input usernames / passwords / email, add quantities, or enter a credit card for a test transaction. Tag Inspector would not be able to detect tags inside checkout funnels that require the input of some form of data to progress through the funnel.

Tag Explorer

Tag Explorer is a Chrome extension or “plugin” developed by the team at Tag Inspector. When this extension is enabled on your Chrome browser, it detects all of the tracking tags loading on the page you are currently browsing. Tag Explorer can be used while you browse through a checkout funnel, making it a quick way to spot check your tags in the funnel (albeit manually). Learn more about Tag Explorer here.

Yes, reporting for the cookies set on a website is available in all Tag Inspector audits. Cookie reporting lists all cookies set, the pages each is set on, and the tracking tag(s) responsible for placing the cookie. Tag Inspector’s cookie reporting helps organizations with the process of auditing cookie behavior across user consent conditions and categorizing cookies for user notice.

Yes, API access is available as an additional Tag Inspector license add-on. The Tag Inspector API allows for access to structured data so it can be integrated into your own systems. Most of the data you see in Tag Inspector’s interface is available through the API, along with some additional data points. For more detailed information about the API and licensing options, please contact us.

When audits are executed by Tag Inspector, the system will scan every identified or input page of your website. Audits include scans simulating multiple user consent conditions to identify tracking tag behavior for users that accept consent, reject consent (either explicitly or via an automated opt-out mechanism), and that do not make a consent selection. The time to audit largely depends upon how many pages being scanned and the performance of the website. If your audit is less than 500 pages, results will usually be available within the hour. Larger audits of thousands of pages can take up to 24 hours. When your scan is complete, the results will be available to view in your account.
