Analytics platforms hold a variety of data; understanding and dissecting that data, however, can be a challenge. By following this reporting framework guide, you will better understand what’s happening, as well as if what’s happening is normal (or a cause for concern).
Before you start any analysis work, you should understand the goal of your reporting. Are you looking to quickly report key metrics to a specific team or department? In this instance, a high level of reporting is needed. Individuals looking to understand a trend or how something performed will be geared towards in-depth analysis. Both forms of reporting are extremely valuable and require similar information.
The largest difference will be the amount of time you need to invest. High-level reporting can often be completed in as little as a few minutes and as long as a few hours. In-depth analysis will likely take a few hours or more. High level reporting typically requires a user to navigate 1 to 4 reports to find the answer(s) to their question(s), while in-depth analysis requires taking notes and digging through a variety of reports to understand the data. No matter which form of reporting you will be doing, you will need to first determine what success looks like.
