Here are some recommendations and tips to use when building a WordPress site:

  1. Backup your database every couple of hours (WP-DBManager plugins
  2. Optimize your database every day (WP-DBManager plugin)
  3. Backup your files every day
  4. Your the debug queries plugin to check for bad plugins
  5. Run Akismet for spam comments
  6. Use pingdom or another tool to know when your site is down
  7. Use 404 notifier plugin
  8. Remove unneccessary meta info
